Build the BOM Around the Installation Point

A PLC splitter line is easier to quote when a buyer first identifies where it will be installed: a distribution or terminal box, a splice closure, an ODF, a cabinet or a rack. That context determines which package format and connected items should appear beside the splitter in the BOM.

For example, an ODF-related line can be grouped with pigtails and adapters, while an access-network distribution line may need a splitter together with drop cable, fast connectors and installation accessories. Grouping does not prescribe a configuration; it gives the supplier enough project context to identify omissions or questions before quotation.

Organize the Related Products Before Asking for a Quote

Use a separate section of the BOM for the products that connect to or house the splitter. This helps procurement teams compare like-for-like proposals and prevents a project list from being reduced to one isolated splitter line.

  • ODF or enclosure: describe the panel, box, cabinet or distribution-frame context for the splitter.
  • Fiber pigtails and adapters: list connector family, polish and quantity consistently with the intended interface.
  • FTTH drop cable: identify the cable items needed for the access portion of the project.
  • Fast connectors and accessories: add field-termination or installation items when they are part of the same scope.
  • Documentation: attach a line drawing, existing BOM or labeling convention if it removes ambiguity.

Common PLC Splitter BOM Mistakes

  • Listing a split ratio without a package type or installation context.
  • Using a connector name without stating the required polish when the project distinguishes it.
  • Omitting input/output length or pigtail length on a connectorized splitter requirement.
  • Combining multiple ratios or package styles in one line instead of assigning quantities to each.
  • Leaving ODF, pigtail, adapter or drop-cable requirements in a separate email with no shared BOM reference.
  • Requesting a quote without a quantity, application or destination detail.
