Quote the installation handover, not only the cable

A request for “FTTH drop cable” can describe several different buyer needs. A cable for an indoor route, an outdoor route, a self-supporting section, or a pre-terminated handover may require separate review. A clear request lets an FTTH drop cable supplier quote the lines the buyer actually intends to compare without filling in route or endpoint assumptions.

Start with a cable line for each distinct installation context. Then add a separate termination line only where the buyer needs a connectorized assembly or field work. Finally, keep related splitter, terminal, ODF, pigtail, adapter and accessory lines visible as their own items. This creates a usable FTTH project BOM rather than an untraceable bundle.

Use a four-part handover schedule

Decisions to make before the RFQ leaves procurement

First, define the installed-route context for each cable line; do not use one generic description for unlike route sections. Next, decide whether the project expects a pre-terminated drop cable or a field-installable connector workflow. A pre-terminated assembly needs both endpoint references. A field-installable workflow needs the buyer’s intended connector and cable-match reference.

Then connect the cable schedule to the appropriate passive lines. For an access-network BOM, a PLC splitter supplier can review the splitter line more clearly when the intended distribution point is named. Where termination or distribution hardware is required, add the relevant ODF or patch-panel, fiber pigtail and fiber adapter lines instead of treating them as unspecified accessories.

RFQ mistakes that delay a comparable answer

  • One cable line for several route types: split different installation contexts into distinct buyer lines.
  • “Pre-terminated” without endpoint detail: include both endpoints or the buyer drawing reference and keep the assembly tied to its cable line.
  • Fast connector without a cable relationship: state the cable-match reference and the endpoint or route it serves.
  • Passive hardware hidden in a comment: give each requested splitter, ODF, pigtail, adapter or accessory its own quantity and relationship.
  • No release reference: identify the current BOM or drawing revision so later changes do not silently alter the quote basis.
