Start With the Route, Not a Generic Cable Name
One access-network order may contain different cable runs: an outdoor lead-in, a self-supporting span, an indoor entry section or a customer-premise connection. Do not combine these into one line merely because all are called drop cable. Give every route section an identifier, its application and its expected length or length schedule.
Then record the requested fiber count, fiber type where known, cable construction or jacket requirement, quantity and packing requirement. If a drawing governs the project, cite its revision rather than asking a supplier to infer the route from an overall total. This route-first approach supports both standard cable requests and pre-terminated drop cable discussions without treating them as the same item.
Use a Route-and-Termination Schedule
Keep Termination Choices Explicit
A cable length and a connector name do not tell the whole story. For a field-installable route, list the connector family, requested polish when applicable and the installation accessory line separately. For a pre-terminated requirement, identify both endpoint references and the drawing or line schedule that governs them. The aim is not to prescribe a network design; it is to preserve the buyer’s chosen termination method in the RFQ.
This distinction matters when reviewing an FTTH fast connector supplier request alongside cable. It prevents a cable-only line from being mistaken for a connectorized assembly, and it helps the quote team see which accessories belong to which installation section.
