Help a quotation team review an OEM fiber optic cable assembly or private-label product request by keeping the specification, artwork, packing and revision reference attached to the correct buyer line.

Make each SKU reviewable before quotation

An OEM request becomes difficult to compare when one spreadsheet row mixes a cable configuration with a label note and a separate carton instruction. For an OEM fiber optic cable assembly RFQ, assign a buyer line ID to each distinct item, then use that same ID in the BOM, artwork register, packing schedule and change note.

This does not ask the supplier to design the product or decide which files govern the order. It lets the buyer show the commercial and technical references that already control the request. The same approach works for private label fiber optic products, neutral packing and a mixed project or replenishment list.

Use a four-part SKU handover schedule

Product lineBuyer line ID, existing SKU or reference photo, product family and quantity.
ConfigurationFor cable assemblies: connector, polish where required, fiber, cable reference, length, color or drawing reference.
Branding filesLabel or artwork filename, buyer revision, affected line IDs and any approval-status note from the buyer.
Packing handoverInner-pack and carton reference tied to the relevant line, plus requested marks or labels where applicable.
Change controlCurrent BOM issue date, superseded reference and one buyer contact for clarification.

Fields to keep separate

Do not use a general phrase such as “private label package” to cover all items automatically. A patch cord, MTP/MPO harness, pigtail and adapter may have different line-level specifications or packing needs. Use related line IDs to show connected products, but retain separate rows when their configuration, artwork or packing instruction differs.

For a fiber optic patch cord supplier request, a buyer can link the SKU handover to connector-end, polish, fiber, length, label and packing fields. For high-density cable lines, link the relevant record to MTP/MPO cable assembly supplier requirements such as the buyer's endpoint or mapping reference. If the BOM also includes passive hardware, identify its own row rather than folding it into the cable assembly line.

Common RFQ mistakes

  • Sending artwork without identifying which SKU or BOM line it controls.
  • Using an old product number or photo without stating whether it is a reference or the current buyer requirement.
  • Combining unlike configurations under one quantity and asking the quote team to separate them.
  • Putting label, inner-pack and carton instructions in an unversioned chat message instead of the buyer-controlled schedule.
  • Omitting the destination and current BOM revision when several files are circulating.
